Gyproc develops local solution for Lapita Hotel

Lapita Hotel, Dubai

Bespoke, high performance Gyproc lining systems will soon be ringing to the sounds of the Pacific Islands, in a new 500-plus room Polynesian-themed hotel that will form a stunning centrepiece for the Middle East’s largest multi-themed leisure and entertainment destination.

To meet demanding fire and acoustics standards at the new hotel, partitions and wall lining throughout the complex were specified at the design stage based on UK specifications from Gyproc’s sister company. Thanks to close cooperation between Gyproc’s technical and sales teams, Main Contractor, Brookfield Multiplex Middle East, and Drywall Contractor, Plafond Fit-Out LLC, however, they have now been changed to equivalent solutions developed and supplied through the company’s state-of-the–art manufacturing plant in Dubai.

The new partitions will be based on Gyproc’s high performance Gypwall QUIET system, which has been designed to provide the required 90 minutes fire performance, in addition to meeting the client’s demanding acoustic standards. Wall linings will be based on Gyproc’s popular GypLyner UNIVERSAL and DriLyner BASIC systems, which have again been upgraded to meet the specified standards.

Offering major speed and cost benefits over the alternative heavy blockwork, the new lightweight Gyproc systems will improve logistics and simplify stocking and ordering procedures on site. The dry construction techniques will also help to improve fit-out scheduling and integration with other trades.

Gyproc’s technical and training teams will be on hand throughout the project to provide Plafond with in-depth technical support and bespoke on-site installer training – a critical requirement that will ensure the new lightweight systems can be installed quickly and efficiently to meet the client’s demanding performance, cost and project delivery requirements.

The new leisure and entertainment complex, which is being developed by Dubai Parks and Resorts in the Jebel Ali area of the City, will also feature three theme parks – two of which are already specified with Gyproc systems, and a grand entrance plaza. The new Lapita hotel will provide an outstanding centrepiece - designed to echo the tropical environment of the Polynesian islands, it comes complete with dramatic façade, lagoon-style pools and relaxing landscapes adorned with the vivacious colours of Polynesian flowers.
