Gyproc systems chosen for Iconic new hotel

Gyproc high performance lining systems have been chosen for Danish Architect Henning Larsen’s iconic new 18-storey hotel at Al Khobar in KSA’s East Province.

Described by the architect as a “vertical interactive community”, the four-star hotel is spread over an area of 37,000m2, and is characterised by its different and distinct volumes, rotated for protection from the sun and to create individual views; and a unique self-shading patterned façade that gives the building a semi-mirrored appearance.

Under construction by main contractors Shapoorji Pallonji for AlKhorayef and Intercontinental Hotels, the new centre features 190 serviced apartments located above three lower levels of high-end retail destinations and coffee shops.

To match the groundbreaking exterior, Henning Larsen chose Gyproc’s modern high performance lightweight interior systems in preference to more traditional heavyweight masonry, as they provided a fast track alternative that met all of the client’s demanding criteria, and provided guaranteed levels of performance in key areas like acoustics and fire protection.

Working closely alongside the architect and contractors, Gyproc’s technical and sales specialists developed interior solutions based on a wide range of the company’s high performance systems. These included GypWall CLASSIC partitions, GypWall QUIET acoustic separating walls and ShaftWall, a specially developed shaft and stairwell lining system that meets the highest standards of fire and acoustic performance and can be installed from one side only - making it ideal for shafts and areas with limited access.

Because of the complexity of the project, Gyproc provided in depth technical support and training, on and off-site, throughout the initial planning and installation phases, ensuring that the systems could be installed quickly and efficiently, to maintain the project’s tight build programme.

The Gyproc systems, valued in excess of AED 1 million, are being supplied for the project through Unitech Building and Construction Materials of Riyadh.
