Al Mafraq Hospital
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
First established in 1983, a US$870 million major expansion was completed to triple the treatment rooms to 690 beds - sufficient to cover the cities demand until post-2018. The site now spans an area of 306,803m2 with a built up area of 246,118m2 across four patient towers of 10-12 storeys including two Royal suites and 32 VVIP suites.
The following Gyproc systems were specified and used in the project:
- GypWall CLASSIC, GypWall QUIET and GypWall QUIET SF is specified using our Gyproc DuraLine MR board to provide the required duty rating, fire performance and acoustic solutions.
- GypLyner system used to encase concrete columns and beams.
Challenges
- Stringent acoustic requirement between patient and treatment rooms of between 52-53dB.
- High level of fire performance required to 120 minutes.
- Severe duty rating required throughout to protect high traffic areas from impact.
- American Standard (ASTM) compliance.
- Level of training required to upskill the drylining installation teams of the four sub-contracting companies.
Outcome
Collaborative working with all parties ensured any site issues were resolved promptly and efficiently and a high level of training hours minimised many typical site problems. A SpecSure Warranty was also issued to guarantee the performance of Gyproc solutions in line with installation guidelines.
