8th Saint-Gobain Gypsum International Trophy Awards
The 8th International Trophy ceremony was held in the National Maritime Museum, London, on Friday June 8th2012. Following the recent Diamond Jubilee celebrations, and in the final run up to the 2012 Olympic Games, London was a vibrant location for the evening gala dinner event, hosted by UK subsidiary British Gypsum.
The Saint-Gobain Gypsum International Trophy is an international competition that has taken place every second year since 1998. Created to recognise and reward the craftsmanship of drywall and plastering contractors the trophy promotes excellence and innovation in the use of sustainable, lightweight plasterboard systems and plasters.
Following a local selection process Saint-Gobain Gyproc Middle East was represented at the event by the prestigious Hyatt Capital Gate Hotel, Abu Dhabi. This iconic building, part of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), has already received its share of accolades including a Guinness World Record for the World’s most inclined building.
The interior drylining fit out - which included high performance systems for fire and acoustic protection and moisture and impact performance - was undertaken by Chronicle Interiors and Interiors International, who were both represented at the London event.
“Whilst our project didn’t win the category prize it was an honour to be involved in such an international event,” said Tom Greenan, Senior Project Manager for Interiors International.
According to Patrick Atkinson, Global Marketing Manager for Saint-Gobain Gypsum, “The quantity and quality of the projects continues to increase with each trophy event and clearly demonstrates a shift in construction techniques to modern, lightweight drylining systems across the world”.
Modern, lightweight construction, namely the use of Gyproc plasterboard and Gypframe metal framing systems, offers distinct advantages over traditional blockwork methods. The build programme can be halved and savings of at least 15% can be saved on the costs of structural members and foundations. This is in addition to thinner wall solutions, and hence additional floor space and improved safety on site from reduced deliveries and logistical movements around site.
