Gyproc heads for the Hills

Gyproc’s high-performance systems have been selected to meet tough acoustic and fire resistance standards at the new Dubai Hills Mall – a 2 million ft2 retail and leisure development that is set to bring new energy to Dubai’s retail sector.

The new Mall, which is being constructed over two storeys around a central courtyard and will house around 750 retail, leisure and entertainment venues, including an 18-screen Cineplex cinema and 65,000 ft2 hypermarket, is being developed as a joint venture by Emaas Properties and Meraas.

Acoustics are key within the massive complex, in order to create the right ambience for high-end retail brands and to separate quiet areas from the hustle and bustle of restaurants, communal corridors and other high traffic areas. For this reason, consultants, Arcadis, selected GypWall QUIET, a high-performance twin-frame acoustic separating wall which achieves up to 64RwdB sound performance and up to 120 minutes fire resistance.

In lift and service shafts and areas where access problems allow construction from one side only, Gyproc ShaftWall will be used to maintain fire-performance and acoustic standards.

With a total value in excess of AED 1.7 million, the Gyproc systems are being supplied and installed by Al Rawda General Maintenance and Décor Co, who have been appointed as both distributors and sub-contractors for the Mall complex.

Featuring dedicated parking for up to 7000 cars and a unique solar shading and harvesting system and 6.5-megawatt peak (MWp) solar power plant that will help to make it one of the most sustainable retail developments in the UAE, the new Mall will become the centerpiece of Dubai Hills Estate, the largest real estate development of its kind in the Middle East.

The new Mall is scheduled to open in late 2019.
