Gyproc makes light work of State-of-the-Art Medical Centre

City Walk Medical Centre - Dubai

High performance lightweight wall and ceiling systems from Gyproc Middle East have been chosen to meet demanding performance and cost targets at Dubai’s latest state-of-the-art medical facility.

In the shadow of Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, the ultra-modern AED 900,000 City Walk Medical Centre by Meraas Development is part of a major three-phase combined retail and leisure development. A striking multi-storey design, the building has been constructed in modular style for speed and efficiency of delivery.

To meet the tight delivery target, Consultant, Aedas Interiors, chose Gyproc’s lightweight metal framed systems for all internal walls, partitions and ceiling linings as they offered many weight, speed and cost benefits over the traditional heavy masonry alternatives, while meeting and surpassing the client’s demanding acoustic, fire and durability performance objectives.

Working closely with Aedas and Main Contractor, Al Shafar General Contracting Co. LLC (ASGC), Gyproc’s technical team developed a complete lightweight specification based on two of the company’s most popular systems, Gypwall QUIET, a high performance twin frame acoustic separating wall, used around wards and treatment areas, and Gypwall ROBUST, which is lined with impact resistant Gyproc Duraline board to resist damage from wheelchairs, trolleys etc. in corridors and other high traffic areas.

To maintain the high quality internal finish, structural blockwork and masonry walls are lined using Gyproc Drilyner BASIC, a simple and effective lining system that removed the need for wet trades, and therefore added to time savings on the project.

Finally, exceptionally high levels of acoustic performance were achieved to ceiling areas using Gyproc MF concealed grid suspended ceilings in conjunction with the latest Rigitone 8-15-20 Super, an acoustic ceiling board with a random pattern of full depth perforations that provide enhanced sound absorption coupled with an attractive visual, in keeping with the building’s modern design theme.

To ensure that the contractors were able to achieve the full cost and time-saving benefits offered by the lightweight systems, The Gyproc team provided technical support on and off-site throughout the project.
