Gyproc systems keep KHCC expansion on track

KHCC Amman Jordan - Gyproc Middle East

Lightweight high performance plasterboard systems from Gyproc Middle East in Dubai, have been selected to meet demanding performance and scheduling targets for the new JD 130 million expansion and renovation of Jordan’s highly respected King Hussain Cancer Centre in Amman.

Expansion of the Centre, the only specialist cancer care centre in the Middle East treating both adult and paediatric cancer patients, will deliver a new 13-storey inpatient tower and new outpatient building. Together, they will double the Centre’s capacity to meet the growing demand for cancer care throughout Jordan and the surrounding Middle East countries.

Working closely with the architect and contractors, Gyproc’s technical team helped to put together a comprehensive dry lining package for the new buildings that meets all of the client’s performance demands whilst saving valuable time and cost compared with the more traditional masonry alternatives.

The majority of partition applications throughout the buildings will utilise the company’s GypWall CLASSIC system, a versatile metal frame system that can be configured to provide sound insulation of up to Rw59dB and 180 minutes fire performance, as well as the most demanding ‘Severe Duty’ impact resistance for corridors and more vulnerable high traffic areas. For recovery wards and other highly noise sensitive patient areas GypWall QUIET, a high performance twin frame acoustic separating wall system, is being employed to provide enhanced levels of sound performance.

In the inpatient tower, shaft walls are being formed using the company’s ShaftWall system, a modern high performance fast track lining system that can be built from one side only, allowing construction to commence at an earlier stage in the programme, adding to overall time savings on the project.

To ensure maximum speed and efficiency of installation, Gyproc’s technical and training teams are providing high levels of on and off-site support throughout the project, including a comprehensive installer training programme of modular one and two-day on-site training courses, that have to date delivered over 70 man days of training to groups of up to 25 installers and supervisors at a time.

When the expansion is complete later this year, the hospital will have more than doubled the number of patient beds and increased its capacity to carry out life-saving bone marrow operations from 100 to 300 per year.
