Gyproc systems for Makkah super-hotel
High performance partition and shaftwall systems from Gyproc Middle East have been chosen to meet demanding sound and fire performance levels at Makkah’s new Maad Hospitality Towers Hotel.

The complex of 24 multi-storey towers is located on Al Khalil Street in the heart of the Holy City, close to the Holy Haram. Housing a number of 3 and 4-Star hotels, together providing 11, 749 rooms, as well as a shopping mall, meeting and celebration halls, a restaurant complex and prayer area, it has been designed to provide essential additional high quality accommodation for the millions of pilgrims who visit the shrine every year.
To ensure that main contractors, Ashi & Bushnag Contracting could meet the client’s delivery schedule for the massive project, Gyproc worked closely with architect’s AMSAD and Consultants Zuhair Fayez Partership, to develop a lightweight partition and lining package that would facilitate fast track building techniques while meeting all of the demanding performance standards required for the multi-storey construction.
Gyproc GypWall CLASSIC metal stud partitions were chosen to provide 45dB-plus sound insulation between bedrooms and around corridors, ensuring a relaxing atmosphere for guests, as well as meeting 60 minutes fire protection standards. For shafts and areas where a more challenging 120 minutes fire performance was required, the specification was based on Gyproc ShaftWall, a specialist metal stud system developed specifically for shafts and stairwells, where access is available from one side only.
The dry construction systems enable work to progress much more quickly than the alternative heavy masonry techniques, allowing early access to follow-on trades, as well as being easier to transport and manipulate in the space limited hotel environment. Being significantly lighter in weight, they also save on everything from logistics to building foundation requirements.
