Healthier Spaces logo

Creating healthier spaces by improving indoor air quality.

Activ'Air Logo Banner

We spend 90% of our time indoors, so let’s make it healthy and comfortable. Using Activ’Air® technology, we can help you remove harmful compounds in the air.

Pollutants found in both our working and living spaces, called VOCs (volatile organic compounds), can cause health problems and a reduction in our general well-being. They are naturally emitted into rooms by people, pets, cleaning products as well as furniture, carpets and paints. The most common VOC found within our living and working spaces is formaldehyde, and this is what Activ'Air technology absorbs and breaks down.

Some of the health problems VOCs can cause

People often complain about health problems after extended periods of time spent indoors. Many of these symptoms can be attributed to VOCs:

  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Lack of concentration
  • Eye irritation
  • Fatigue
  • Breathing problems

Activ'Air technology

Activ'Air technology is added to a number of our products and systems including Gyproc plasterboards, Rigitone and Gyptone ceilings.

When installed, the Activ'Air technology within each of these products works to decompose formaldehyde emissions into non-harmful inert compounds, improving the air quality within buildings.

A case study from classrooms in Belgium can be seen below. It demonstrated a 60% decrease in formaldehyde concentration over two months following a ceiling refurb where products containing Activ'Air were installed.

Furthermore, Activ'Air technology:

  • Contributes towards LEED points under indoor air quality
  • Works through an emulsion paint finish
  • Has no impact on fire performance, acoustic performance and durability.

Formaldehyde reduction is based on experimental data following IS016000-23 standards from 0.4m² to 1.4m² installed/m³ room.

Lifetime has been confirmed experimentally and analytically on a commercial board sample in the frame of a collaborative work with independent certified body ULE and Pr J. Zhang , University of Syracuse, expert in Environmental Chemistry and Engineering, Mechanical ventilation and Indoor air quality.
