Manar chooses Aquaroc Fibre Cement Board

Gyproc’s high performance Aquaroc Fibre Cement Board has been chosen against stiff local and international competition for semi-exposed and specialist internal lining applications at Ras Al Khaimer’s US$ 63 million Manar Mall extension project.

One of the region’s most prestigious current developments, the refurbishment and expansion at the northern emirates most popular shopping and leisure destination will see a complete second storey added to the centre, which was opened in September 2000.

Aquaroc board is an asbestos-free high density board, reinforced with cellulose fibre, which has been developed to combine high mechanical strength with excellent water resistance. It will be used throughout the centre to provide a robust and maintenance-free lining for semi-exposed soffits and for internal and semi-exposed tiled areas.

Whilst technical performance was the primary requirement, Aquaroc was chosen in consideration of the customized technical support offered to provide extreme solutions such as walls reaching heights of 17.5 m. This commitment was essential to all parties involved for a project of this size and complexity.

Valued at almost AED 1 million, the board is being installed by Dubai-based fit-out specialist Deco Serve Technical for main contractor Sun Engineering & Contracting.

The decision to use Aquaroc follows earlier news that Gyproc single and double layered partitions and other high performance systems had been selected to meet high levels of fire safety and acoustic separation between the high-end retail units and leisure spaces, restaurants and other facilities, which form part of the expansion project.

Due to be completed later this year, the expansion doubles the existing area which will be divided into 9 different zones. Adding a further 30,000 square metres of prime retail space, complete with spectacular waterfront retail promenade and new entertainment complex. It is expected to open up new business opportunities for the area, as well as providing a significant boost for the emirates’ tourism industry.
