IKEA Store Yas Island

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

The new flagship IKEA store in the heart of the Yas Island retail district is the largest IKEA outlet in the Middle East with a retail space of 30,000m².

The following Gyproc systems were specified and used in the project:

• GypWall QUIET twin frame partitions with Gypframe 70S50 studs lined with two layers of Gyproc FireStop boards to both sides.
• Custom solutions using GypWall CLASSIC partitions with Gypframe studs and proprietary goal post structural support system.
• Gyproc ShaftWall incorporating Gypframe 150I90 studs specified and built to a height of 30m with additional horizontal structural supports at regular intervals.

Challenges

• Partitions to over 10m high capable of achieving 120 minutes fire resistance and RW 60dB acoustic performance.
• Partitions which are not supported at the head.
• Fire rated partitions that can only be constructed from one side to protect service and shaft areas.

Outcome

• Lightweight high performance partitions with installed heights over 10m were designed and constructed in a very short space of time.
• Lightweight high performance Gyproc ShaftWall system, which is only built from one side, was designed and installed to a total height of 30m.
