Midfield shows off Gyproc

Midfield Terminal Abu Dhabi - Gyproc Middle east

The biggest and most architecturally imposing structure in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, the new Midfield Terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport, will be a showplace for Gyproc’s lightweight partitions and building systems when it opens for operation in 2017.

Accommodating the complex architecture created many challenges for the building’s internal walls and linings, and Gyproc’s technical experts were therefore involved in the project from an early stage.

The final specifications read like a compendium of Gyproc systems, with virtually every lightweight partition and lining system in the company’s portfolio incorporated into a grand plan that will see every different performance criteria, from sound insulation and fire performance to impact resistance for high traffic areas, accommodated within a fully co-ordinated systemised solution.

The standard GypWall CLASSIC partition is being used throughout the complex to meet demanding performance requirements up to Rw59dB sound insulation, 180 minutes fire performance and ‘Severe Duty’ impact resistance. To accommodate increased partition heights and for more acoustically sensitive areas, GypWall QUIET, an advanced twin frame acoustic wall system provides the additional performance needed.

Gyproc’s independent wall lining system, GypWall IWL, provides fire protection for structural steelwork, whilst elsewhere, GypLyner UNIVERSAL ensures a high performance aesthetic lining to concrete walls and ceilings, and the company’s market leading ShaftWall system provides a high performance lining to lift and service shafts.

With the complexity of systems and detailing, Gyproc has provided a very high level of support to the contractor, both on and off-site, throughout the design and installation phases, with the company’s Technical Manager attending weekly site meetings since early 2014.

To date, the training team has also provided more than 150 man days of training to installers, with modular on-site training courses of 1-3 days duration covering all of the key systems, as well as training on the finishing techniques which will be employed to meet the clients demands for superb quality internal finishes to match the stunning exterior aesthetics.
