Located at One Knowledge Avenue in Dubai Knowledge Park, Heriot-Watt University’s new campus is a landmark educational development spanning approximately 218,000 sq. ft. across G+6 floors.

The project forms part of TECOM Group’s academic ecosystem and provides a modern, flexible learning environment designed to support innovation and collaboration.

Designed in a contemporary format with interconnected blocks, the campus integrates classrooms, lecture halls, libraries, recording studios, and collaborative spaces, delivering a highly adaptable academic setting.

With advanced acoustic requirements for music rooms, lecture spaces, and open study areas, the project demanded high-performance ceiling and partition systems to ensure comfort, clarity, and functionality.

CHALLENGES

  • Eliminating plywood use while maintaining high load-bearing performance (Habito boards).
  • Managing complex material logistics across multiple floors.
  • Coordinating MEP and ceiling installations with precision.
  • Protecting installed ceilings during post-installation works.
  • Delivering high acoustic performance for specialized spaces (music rooms, studios).

OUTCOME

Gyproc and Ecophon delivered a fully integrated ceiling and partition package tailored for education and acoustic performance requirements.

The solution included:

  • Ecophon acoustic ceiling systems and Fade Acoustic plaster achieving NRC up to 1.0
  • GypWall QUIET and AUDIO systems delivering up to Rw 70 dB acoustic performance
  • Gyptone Activ’Air and MF ceiling systems across key areas
  • Extensive use of SoundBloc and Habito boards for durability, acoustics, and fire resistance

The project successfully delivered a high-performance, LEED Gold-certified learning environment, combining acoustic excellence, sustainability, and execution efficiency.
